Red Stripe: Jamaica's U.S.-Born Beer

· Beer

I'm finally back from a proper vacation. Tucked away within an all-inclusive resort with family for a handful of days in Jamaica, it was nothing but food, relaxation, laughter, and great drinks. If even remotely familiar with Jamaican cuisine, even stereotypically, you have heard of Red Stripe beer. It's iconic. It's simply enjoyable. It's not inherently Jamaican, either.

Red Stripe beer logo, featuring a prominent red stripe with the word "Red Strip" in white script embedded. Underneath the stripe it says, "Brewed in Jamaica."

Notice how it says "brewed" and not "born"? I believe there's more to it than simply talking about the beer. You see, the story of Red Stripe's origin is one with a lot mixed into it. Is this drink the works of American Kyle Todd, Jamaican Paul Geddes, or the enginuity of British investors?

In short, the answer is yes.

Here's corporate's take...

and a longer take from the outside, looking in...

It's interesting, delicious, and beloved by many on the Rock. Have you tried Red Stripe? What do you think of its history?
